Ukrainian brand NaturPro presents natural Indian indigo powder. This is a 100% natural and safe hair dye prepared from the plant Indigofera tinctoria. With indigo, you can get a variety of dark hair colours. It also helps to eliminate dandruff and makes the hair thicker and stronger.
Indigo (also known as basma in Iran and areas of the former Soviet Union) has long been used as a natural hair dye that covers grey hair well. When mixed with henna, it allows to get a variety of dark hair colours depending on your natural hair colour and other factors (the proportions of indigo and henna, the amount of time you let it sit). Pure indigo typically stains the hair greenish blue.
While staining your hair, indigo also takes good care of it due to being rich in tannins and other useful compounds. It makes the hair thicker and tamer, strengthens hair follicles, helps to eliminate dandruff, reduces hair loss, stimulates hair growth, and restores the hair’s natural elasticity, volume and shine.
Directions. Mix indigo with henna in a non-metallic bowl. The proportions will depend on the hair colour you intend to get, as well as your natural hair colour. Here are approximate proportions for different shades:
- Black: 2 parts indigo and 1 part henna.
- Bronze: 1 part indigo and 2 parts henna.
- Chestnut: 1 part indigo and 1 part henna.
- Light brown: 1 part indigo and 1 part henna, letting the dye sit for no longer than 30 minutes.
Of course, you won’t be able to dye your hair light brown with henna and indigo if your hair is already dark; you will only get a deeper and more vibrant colour. If you use pure indigo, the result will be a greenish blue.
Add hot water (80-100°C) and stir well to obtain a thick, lump-free paste. Let it cool and apply to dry, clean hair from root to tip. Put on a shower cap and wrap your head in a towel. Let the dye sit for 30 minutes to 2 hours, depending on how deep you want the colour to be. Wash your hair with warm water without shampooing to keep the pigment from washing out. To maintain vibrant hair colour, refrain from washing your head for the next 2 or 3 days.
Cautions. Wait for at least 2 weeks after perm or using a chemical dye before dyeing your hair with indigo. In case of contact with skin, wash with soap and rinse with warm water.
