Ukrainian beauty brand Cocos presents a unique and valuable product – handmade Castile soap. Its recipe is believed to have been brought to Europe by the Crusaders in the 11th century, and Castile soap has remained popular ever since, even in the age when stores are stocked with an abundant selection of facial washes to suit any taste and budget. This is because Castile soap is very mild and gentle to the skin.
The main feature of Castile soap is that it contains only two ingredients, extra virgin olive oil and an alkaline solution, which turns oil into soap. High-quality olive oil is a valuable source of oleic acid, which moisturises and softens the skin. Thanks to the high content of oleic acid, Castile soap is so soft and safe for the skin. None of the vegetable oils contains as much oleic acid as olive oil, that is why olive soap is the gentlest of all vegetable soaps.
In addition to fatty acids, unrefined olive oil contains the so-called unsaponifiable fraction, which includes vitamins, antioxidants and other useful substances that give the oil its characteristic colour and smell. These substances are not affected by the saponification process; they remain in Castile soap and are responsible for the fair share of its skin benefits. That is why washing your face with Castile soap will make your skin soft and smooth, prevent dehydration and premature ageing of the epidermis.
