How to Grow Thicker Eyebrows

How to Grow Thicker Eyebrows Today, thick, natural-looking eyebrows (think Cara Delevingne or Lily Collins) are the hot trend many women of all ages want to have, so of course they are wondering how to grow thicker eyebrows. Sadly, it doesn’t happen overnight, especially if you’ve been plucking your eyebrows for most of your life, but there are a few tips that will help you to regrow your eyebrows and make them grow thicker.

Eyebrow trends have changed multiple times over the years from drawn on, super thin eyebrows in the 1920s, to a more natural look in the 1940s, defined, luscious eyebrows in the 1950s, thin eyebrows again in the 1960s and 1970s, the return of natural eyebrows in the 1980s, swinging back to obsessive plucking in the 1990s, and pencil-filled eyebrows in the 2000s. And now we’re seeing the return of natural eyebrows once again.

However, you should keep in mind that natural eyebrows don’t equal messy eyebrows. You still need to keep your brows well-shaped and well-groomed by plucking stray hairs, using special products to tame your eyebrows, etc. And the first thing you need to do is decide on your desired eyebrow shape to understand which hairs need to go.

The correct eyebrow shape is always individual and depends on one’s facial features. However, there are a few tips that will help you to determine your perfect eyebrow shape:

  • the start of the eyebrow lies at the intersection of the start of the brow ridge and an imaginary straight line drawn from the middle of the nostril to the forehead;
  • the end of the eyebrow lies at the intersection of the end of the brow ridge and an imaginary straight line drawn from the middle of the nostril through the outer corner of the eye to the temple;
  • the highest point of the eyebrow lies at the intersection of the brow ridge and an imaginary straight line drawn from the middle of the nostril through the middle of the eye to the forehead.

The thickness of your eyebrows will depend on the shape and features of your face. The general rule of thumb is that the width of your brow should be approximately the same as the width of your upper lip to make your face look proportional. However, you should keep in mind that very thick eyebrows don’t look well with close-set, small eyes because they can make the eyes look even smaller and give you a perpetual frown.

When you’ve decided on the shape and thickness of your eyebrows, you should forget about plucking your them for three to six months. The only exception is plucking stray hairs every couple of weeks in the areas where you don’t want them (for example, near the outer corner of the upper eyelid).

Your brow hair won’t grow back all at once, so your eyebrows will probably look patchy for several weeks or even months. If you don’t like this, you can use either a dense concealer to mask the growing hairs or an eyebrow pencil to conceal the gaps in the growing eyebrows. You can also use a safe and natural henna-based eyebrow tint for a more long-lasting result.

The growth rate of brow hair averages about 1 mm per 5 days, so you need to be patient in order to grow thicker eyebrows. However, there are several tricks that will speed up the process a little bit by stimulating the hair follicles in the skin of the eyebrows.

For example, you can regularly brush and massage your eyebrows using a clean mascara wand. It will boost microcirculation in the skin, helping to provide hair follicles with nutrients and oxygen and thus improving hair growth. Exfoliating the skin of your eyebrows with a gentle scrub 2 or 3 times a week might also help.

You should also make sure that your eyebrow hair and skin are properly nourished and hydrated because your hair follicles need enough moisture and nutrients to function properly. The easiest way to do this is to apply natural oils that facilitate hair growth, such as castor oil, burdock oil, olive oil, sweet almond oil, avocado oil, and woad oil. Other ingredients that boost eyebrow growth include vitamins A, E, B5 and B7, aloe vera, caffeine, taurine, and arginine. Eyebrow serums usually contain at least several of them.
