Coconut oil, also known as copra oil, is extracted from the kernel or meat of mature coconuts. Its key constituents are saturated fats, such as lauric acid, myristic acid, palmitic acid, decanoic acid, and caprylic acid. Because of its high saturated fat content, coconut oil is resistant to oxidation and thus has a long shelf life.
Coconut oil has a wide range of skin and hair benefits, which makes it one of the most popular cosmetic oils. It moisturises and nourishes the skin, prevents premature skin ageing, relieves dry and flaky skin. When used as a hair care product, it helps to lock in moisture, improves hair elasticity and flexibility, and makes the hair stronger, softer and more manageable.
