Mandarin powder is produced from the fruit of the mandarin orange (Citrus reticulata), which is one of the most popular citrus fruits due to its sweet taste. Mandarins are a good source of vitamins (beta-carotene, B vitamins, vitamin C, vitamin E), dietary minerals (calcium, iron, magnesium, manganese, phosphorus, potassium, sodium, zinc), phytoncides, organic acids, and other biologically active substances.
Thanks to its high content of useful substances, mandarin powder is a great skincare ingredient. Due to its anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, it eliminates acne breakouts, combats inflammation, soothes irritated skin, normalises sebum secretion, reduces the appearance of pores, and prevents oily shine. This powder also reduces pigmentation due to its skin lightening properties, improves the skin’s elasticity and firmness, makes it softer and smoother.
As a hair care ingredient, mandarin regulates the production of sebum in the scalp and prevents dandruff. In addition, it produces a refreshing effect, boosts hair volume, and restores the hair’s natural healthy shine.
Directions. Mix 1 tsp powder with warm water to get a smooth paste. Apply to your skin or hair. Leave for 15–20 minutes, rinse with warm water. Apply skin toner and moisturiser.
To make a mandarin decoction, put 1 tbsp powder into 500 ml water, bring to a boil, let simmer for 3 minutes. Let steep for 3 to 5 hours, strain before use.
To make a mandarin infusion, pour 500 ml warm water over 1 tbsp mandarin powder, leave overnight. Strain before use.
You can use mandarin decoction or infusion to wash or wipe your face, or as a hair rinse.
Conduct a sensitivity test before use. In case of contact with eyes, rinse with plenty of water. Store in the fridge for 2–3 days maximum.
