Ashwagandha powder is obtained from the plant Withania somnifera, commonly known as winter cherry or Indian ginseng. It is a plant in the nightshade family which is widely used as a medicinal herb in traditional Indian medicine. The roots and fruit of ashwagandha are a rich source of various compounds, such as phytosterols, alkaloids, phenolic acids, coumarins, saponins, etc. Thanks to its high content of useful substances, this plant can be used in skin and hair care.
Ashwagandha powder makes the skin softer and smoother, stimulates its regeneration, prevents premature ageing, provides the skin with various nutrients, and improves complexion. It is especially great for taking care of problem skin because of its anti-inflammatory properties. Ashwagandha unclogs pores, helps to get rid of toxins, and prevents acne breakouts.
When used as a hair care product, ashwagandha makes the hair softer and stronger, restores its natural healthy shine. It contains compounds that normalise sebum secretion, helping to keep the hair clean and fresh for longer.
Directions. Mix 1 tsp powder with warm water to get a smooth paste. Apply to your skin or hair. Leave for 15–20 minutes, rinse with warm water. Apply skin toner and moisturiser.
To make an ashwagandha decoction, put 1 tbsp powder into 500 ml water, bring to a boil, let simmer for 3 minutes. Let steep for 3 to 5 hours, strain before use.
To make an ashwagandha infusion, pour 500 ml warm water over 1 tbsp ashwagandha powder, leave overnight. Strain before use.
You can use ashwagandha decoction or infusion to wash or wipe your face, or as a hair rinse.
Conduct sensitivity test before use. In case of contact with eyes, rinse with plenty of water.
