Guava is a common tropical fruit native to Mexico, Central America, northern South America and the Caribbean. It is cultivated in many tropical and subtropical regions (about 40% of all guava in the world is produced in India). Guava fruits are rich in vitamins A, C and K, B vitamins and dietary minerals (calcium, iron, magnesium, manganese, phosphorus, potassium, sodium, zinc).
Guava is valued for its pronounced antioxidant, revitalising, rejuvenating and moisturising properties. When used as a skincare product, guava powder helps to boost collagen and elastin synthesis in the skin and thus improves skin elasticity and firmness. In addition, guava improves complexion and has an anti-inflammatory, antiseptic and moisturising effect on the skin.
You can also use guava powder to take care of your hair. It repairs damaged hair structure, prevents brittle hair and split ends, makes the hair more manageable, enhances its volume and restores the hair’s natural healthy shine.
Directions.
To make a skin/hair mask, mix 1 tsp guava powder with warm water to get a smooth paste. Apply to your skin or hair. Leave for 15–20 minutes, rinse with warm water. Follow up with skin toner and/or moisturiser, if necessary.
To make a decoction, put 1 tbsp powder into 500 ml water, bring to a boil, let simmer for 3 minutes. Let steep for 3 to 5 hours, strain before use.
To make an infusion, pour 500 ml warm water over 1 tbsp guava powder, leave overnight. Strain before use. The infusion can be stored in the fridge for up to 3 days.
You can use guava decoction or infusion to wash or wipe your face, or as a hair rinse. Guava powder can be mixed with other Ayurvedic powders for a better effect.
Check for skin sensitivity before use. In case of contact with eyes, rinse with plenty of water.
