Ukrainian beauty brand Triuga presents shikakai powder. It is a 100% natural Ayurvedic product that has been used traditionally for hair and skin care in India since ancient times. Shikakai is a natural cleanser suitable for all hair and skin types, including very sensitive skin.
Shikakai powder is obtained from the plant Acacia concinna. It is a climbing shrub native to Asia. The fruit and bark of shikakai are rich in saponins, natural foaming agents with a mild detergent effect. Therefore, shikakai powder is primarily used as a natural shampoo with a low pH that doesn’t strip the hair of moisture and oils.
When used as a shampoo, shikakai doesn’t produce as much lather as a regular shampoo would, but it’s a very good cleanser. In addition, it acts as a detangler, so you don’t have to use conditioner afterwards. Shikakai powder makes the hair softer, smoother and thicker, restores its healthy shine, improves hair volume, reduces hair loss, combats dandruff, and prevents brittle hair and split ends.
You can also use shikakai powder as a facial cleanser. It normalises sebum secretion, provides the skin with nutrients, produces an anti-inflammatory effect, and inhibits the growth of pathogenic bacteria that can cause acne breakouts.
Directions. Mix 1 tsp powder with warm water to get a smooth paste. Apply to your skin or hair. Leave for 15–20 minutes, rinse with warm water. Apply skin toner and moisturiser.
To make a shikakai decoction, put 1 tbsp powder into 500 ml water, bring to a boil, let simmer for 3 minutes. Let steep for 3 to 5 hours, strain before use.
To make a shikakai infusion, pour 500 ml warm water over 1 tbsp shikakai powder, leave overnight. Strain before use.
You can use shikakai decoction or infusion to wash or wipe your face, or as a hair rinse.
Conduct sensitivity test before use. In case of contact with eyes, rinse with plenty of water.
